Key features of the CLAT 2026 Exam Pattern
-
Only Passage-based questions: Barring the Quantitative Technique section, the remainder of the four major sections of the CLAT exam will include passage-based questions. The English, Current Affairs, and Legal Reasoning sections will be comprised of around 450-word passages numbering a total of 19 passages in the exam. The Logical Reasoning section will have short passages of about 350 words. Each passage will be followed by a series of questions to be answered by the candidate in the stipulated time for CLAT i.e. 2 hours.
-
Quantitative Techniques section: The section will include short sets of facts, propositions, graphs, pictorial representation, etc which are to be answered by the candidate in a very short span of time. The candidate has to derive answers from such passages, representations, etc perhaps in the last 15-20 minutes of his/her exam making the section a difficult nut to crack.
-
Total marks & Questions in CLAT exam: The CLAT UG exam will contain 120 multiple-choice questions; each question will carry 1 mark. There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for an incorrect answer.
-
Exam difficulty level: The official difficulty of CLAT exam 2026 is mentioned to be Class 12 but if we analyze the past 3 years only then do we come to know that in reality, the difficulty level is more than Class 12th and less than that of Graduate degree. Questions asked in Quantitative Techniques are of Class 10 difficulty level but sometimes the verbose passages of QT make it difficult to comprehend.
Skills to be evaluated
The CLAT UG question paper will immensely test the candidate in 3 spheres broadly-
1
. Reading- Reading and CLAT can be read now in the same sentence by a serious CLAT aspirant as the exam is highly based on the reading skills of a candidate.
2.
Concentration- A student can have a great reading speed but the speed has to be maintained for approximately 2 hours doing Zig-Zag amongst various sections of CLAT to achieve the desired rank.
3.
Last but not the least- A solid conceptual understanding of the topic in a short span of time. A candidate has to make sure that he is able to decipher the meaning of the passage in a very limited amount of time. For that we are here with our topic wise
