The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) is expected to release the official notification for the recruitment of RRB PO (Scale I Officers ) in October 2026 for Regional Rural Banks across the country. As per previous trends, the examination calendar for 2026 is likely to be released in advance, and the IBPS RRB PO examination is expected to be conducted in November 2026. IBPS RRB PO 2026 Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the post of Scale I officer in Regional Rural Banks, here are the essential education qualifications:1. You must possess a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized University or its equivalent. However, candidates having a degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Science, Agricultural Engineering, Pisciculture, Agricultural Marketing and Cooperation, Information Technology, Management, Law, Economics, or Accountancy will be preferred.
2. Working knowledge of Computers is a desirable qualification for the post of RRB Scale I officer.
Proficiency in the local language
Proficiency in the local language is one of the essential qualifications to be eligible for the post of Officer Scale I as prescribed by the participating Regional Rural Banks.As per the notification, candidates who have already studied the language of the State in standard VIII or any level above standard VIII in Government recognized Boards of Education / Schools or having any certificate to the effect for standard VIII or any level above standard VIII would be considered proficient in that local language.
If you do not meet the aforesaid requirement in the local language at the time of selection, you will be given a time of six months from the date of joining to acquire proficiency. This period can be extended by the Boards of RRBs but such extension should not be beyond the probation period.
IBPS RRB PO 2026 Age Limit
To apply for the post of Scale I officer in RRB, an unreserved category candidate should not be below 18 years & above 30 years of age.

IBPS RRB PO 2026 Exam Pattern
Stage I: Prelims
- The preliminary examination for the post of Scale I officer in RRB is conducted online.
- This phase is divided into 2 sections - Reasoning, and Quantitative Aptitude.
- You are given 80 questions to attempt in a duration of 45 minutes. The time is composite for both sections, i.e, you can switch between the sections at any time.
- The prelims of RRB PO will be of qualifying nature i.e. Marks obtained in the Reasoning or Quantitative Aptitude section will not be considered while preparing the merit List.
- Minimum qualifying marks will be declared by IBPS after prelims.
- There will be a penalty of one-fourth of the marks assigned to that question for wrong answers marked in the Objective Tests.

Stage II: Mains
- This is the second round in the selection process of Scale I officers in RRB.
- The mains of the IBPS RRB Scale I officer would be divided into 5 sections – Reasoning, Computer Knowledge, Language test, General Awareness, and Quantitative Aptitude.
- There would be a composite time of 2 hours for all the sections so you can divide your time as per your capabilities. (No sectional time limit)
- The marks obtained in this round are considered for the merit and final selection so you must score well in this round.

Penalty For Wrong Answers
There will be a penalty for wrong answers marked in the Objective Tests. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate one-fourth of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as a penalty to arrive at the corrected score. Therefore, if you’re unaware of an answer, it would be better to leave the response blank as there will be no penalty for skipped questions.
Stage III: Interview
This is the last stage & an important part of the recruitment process of the RRB PO examination. Candidates who clear the written examinations for the post of RRB PO will subsequently be called for an Interview to be coordinated by the Nodal Regional Rural Bank with the help of NABARD and IBPS in consultation with the appropriate authority. RRB PO interviews will be conducted at selected centres. During the interview round of RRB PO, the officials will try to check your knowledge, opinions, communication skills, and your fitness for the job. This is also the scoring part of the examination process and the marks obtained in this round are added to the final merit.
- To get shortlisted for the RRB PO interview round, you must get the minimum cutoff score in the online main examination.
- An adequate number of candidates in each category not exceeding three times of the declared vacancies in each state will be invited for RRB PO interview.
- IBPS will not disclose the scores of the Online Main Examination to the candidates who have been selected for interviews before the completion of the interview process.
- The total marks allotted for the RRB PO Interview are 100. The minimum qualifying marks/scores in an interview for Officers are declared as per the guidelines.
- The relative weightage (ratio) of the Online Examination and Interview will be 80:20 respectively for the Officers cadre.
- The combined final score of candidates shall be arrived at on the basis of scores obtained by the candidates in the Online Main Examination for the post of Officers Scale I and Interview.
- The interview score of the candidates failing to secure minimum qualifying marks or otherwise barred from the interview or further process shall not be disclosed.
