RBI Grade B Eligibility Criteria

 
Before applying for any position, it is important to review the eligibility requirements to ascertain your eligibility for that particular post and prevent the wastage of your valuable time and efforts. It is the basic criteria for appointment to the posts advertised by the Reserve Bank of India include educational qualifications, age limit, nationality, work experience, and other specific requirements for the post of Grade B officer in RBI. Further, we have discussed the eligibility criteria for the post of RBI Grade B officer that you must fulfill to be eligible for the above-mentioned post.

Also, if the final stage, it is found that any information furnished in the ONLINE application is false/ incorrect or if according to the Board, the candidate does not satisfy the eligibility criteria for the post, his/ her candidature will be cancelled and he/she will not be allowed to appear for the interview, claim any reimbursement towards travelling and can be removed from service without notice if he/she has already joined the Bank.

RBI Grade ‘B’ Educational Qualifications

 
To apply for the post of RBI Grade B officer (General), here are the essential education qualifications:
 

RBI Officers in Grade 'B' (DR) - (General)

 
  • A candidate belonging to the Unreserved category must possess a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent in a Bachelor’s Degree as well as in 12th and 10th standard examinations.
  • A candidate belonging to SC/ST/PWD category must possess a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent in a Bachelor’s Degree as well as in 12th and 10th standard examinations.
  • A candidate having Post-Graduation in any discipline / Equivalent technical or professional qualification is eligible with a minimum of 55% marks (pass marks for SC/ST/PwBD applicants) in aggregate of all semesters/years.


Graduation Level:

Any such course from a recognized University / Institute that is taken after Class XII and is at least of 3 years duration/ candidates possessing professional or technical qualifications which are recognized by the Government as equivalent to professional or technical graduation will be eligible for admission to the examination, subject to obtaining minimum marks prescribed above.

Post-Graduation Level:

Any such course from a recognized University / Institute that is taken after Graduation and is at least of 2 years duration / recognized by the Government as equivalent to professional or technical Post-graduation will be eligible for admission to the examination, subject to obtaining minimum marks prescribed above.
 

RBI Grade B Age Limit

 
To be eligible for the post of RBI Grade B officer, a candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years.
For M. Phil and Ph. D qualified candidates, the upper age limit will be 32 and 34 years, respectively.
The upper age limit prescribed above will be relaxed:

Nationality

 
To be eligible for applying for the post of RBI Grade B officer, a candidate must be either:
 
i. a citizen of India, or
ii. a subject of Nepal, or
iii. a subject of Bhutan, or
iv. a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
v. a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
 
Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv), and (v) shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
 

RBI Grade B – Maximum Number of Attempts

 
Candidates belonging to General Category/EWSs, who have already appeared Six times for Phase-I Examination for this post/s in the past, are not eligible to apply. No such restriction applies to candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PwBD if the posts are reserved for them.

RBI Grade B- Application Fee

 
The application fee for applying for the post of RBI Grade B officer would be as given below. You can make the payment of Application Fees/Intimation Charges through the On-Line Mode only.  As per the notification, you will also have to bear the Bank Transaction charges for Online Payment of application fees/intimation charges.

Note:

The applications without the prescribed Fee/ Intimation Charges shall be summarily rejected.

Fee/Intimation charges once paid shall not be refunded under any circumstances nor can the fee be held in reserve for any other examination or selection.

RBI Grade B officer Salary

 
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is the apex financial institution in India, responsible for maintaining monetary stability, regulating banks and other financial institutions, and managing the country's currency and foreign exchange.  The candidates selected as RBI Grade B officers are offered handsome salaries along with various allowances.
 
Selected Candidates will draw a starting basic pay of ₹ 55,200/-p.m. in the pay scale of Rs. 55200-2850(9)-80850-EB-2850 (2) - 86550-3300(4)-99750 (16 years) applicable to Officers in Grade B.
 

Allowances

 
They will also be eligible for Dearness Allowance, Local Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Family allowance, and Grade Allowance as per rules in force from time to time.

At present, initial monthly gross emoluments are 1,08,404/- (approximately) The House Allowance of 15% of Basic Pay will be paid, if accommodation is not provided by the Bank.

EXAM PATTERN


RBI Grade B - Examination Pattern

 
The RBI Grade B Officer post is highly respected and carries with it a lot of reputation and prestige. It is a position that requires a high level of expertise, knowledge, and skills, and those who are selected for the role are considered to be among the best in the banking industry. Therefore, it is very important to understand the examination pattern very well before preparing for this exam.
 
I. The examination will consist of two phases, viz. - Phase-I & Phase-II followed by an interview.

II. Phase-I examination will be objective type with Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). The Phase-I examination will continue as per the existing Phase-I examination for Grade B (DR).

III. There are four modules in Phase-I, viz.- General Awareness, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning.

IV. Phase-II examinations will consist of three papers in MCQ pattern (except Paper-I) – viz. Paper-I on English (writing skills); Paper-II – Economic & Social Issues and Paper-III – (optional subjects) – Finance & Management/ Economics/ Statistics.

V. Candidates will be required to write all the papers online.

VI. Only successful candidates of Phase-I will appear for the Phase II examination on a later date.

VII. Based on the results of Phase-II examinations candidates will be shortlisted for interview.

VIII. Final selection will be through merit lists which will be prepared by adding marks secured by candidates in Phase II (Paper-I + Paper-II + Paper-III) and Interviews.
 

Phase – I


  • The preliminary examination for the post of Officers in Grade ‘B’(DR)- General will be conducted online.
  • This phase is divided into 4 sections - Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness, and English Language.
  • You are given 200 questions to attempt in a duration of 120 minutes. However, there will be a sectional time limit for each section and you cannot jump to other section until the time for that particular section is over.
  • The phase I of RBI grade B will be qualifying in nature, i.e, marks obtained in this phase will not be considered while preparing the final merit list.
  • Minimum qualifying marks will be declared by IBPS after prelims.
  • There will be a penalty of one-fourth of the marks assigned to that question for wrong answers marked in the Objective Tests.

Phase – II

 
  • The candidates who qualify the phase I based on the cut-off decided by the Board will be invited for the phase II exam.
  • The second phase of the RBI Grade B exam consists of 3 papers (Paper-I +Paper-II +Paper-III).
  • Paper III (Finance and Management) will take place in the morning shift, followed by Paper I (Economics and Social Issues) and Paper II (English) in the afternoon shift without any break between Paper I and Paper II.
  • There will be a penalty for wrong answers marked by you. For every wrong answer marked by you, 1/4th of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as a penalty.
  • For Paper I and Paper III, 30 Objective Questions & 6 Descriptive Questions will be asked.
  • For Paper I and Paper III, 30 minutes duration is allotted to attempt objective-type questions. After 30 minutes, descriptive type paper will start for which 90 minutes duration is allotted. You will not be able to shuffle between objective/descriptive Papers.
  • For Paper I and Paper III, descriptive type paper the word limit shall be 600 words for 15 marks questions and 400 words for 10 marks questions.
  • You will be required to answer only 4 out of 6 descriptive questions. Out of 4, two descriptive questions will be of 15 marks each and the other two will be of 10 marks each. In case, you answer more than 4 questions in descriptive, the first 4 shall be evaluated.

Phase – III

 
An interview is the last phase of the RBI Grade B exam. Based on the results of Phase-II examinations candidates will be shortlisted for interview. The following are the key points to be remembered for RBI Grade B Interview:
 
  • Before 2021 the interview used to be of 50 marks. However, from 2021 onwards, i.e., from the RBI Grade B 2021 exam, the interview is now of 75 marks.
  • The final selection is determined on the basis of the final score out of a total of 375 marks (Mains + Interview).
  • The weightage of the interview for the final selection is 20%. The remaining 80% would be the weightage of marks secured in the RBI Grade B P2 Exam.
