State Bank of India conducts direct recruitment exams for the post of Clerk and PO in the bank. Job Description
An SBI Clerk has to regularly check deposits and loan payments from the customers.

He has to work with the customer, help them with the transaction and make them aware of the latest schemes launched by the bank. 

He is also entitled to handle and resolve customers’ inquiries on disputed transactions.

A clerk has to update the basic data related to the deposits and payments on a regular basis in the bank’s network.
 
An SBI PO has to work as a Public relations Officer on the behalf of the bank.

The PO has to supervise the everyday business of the branch and cross-verify vouchers. 

Monitor and supervise the inter-departmental work

Cross verify the loan-related documents submitted by the clients.

Promotion Rules of becoming an SBI PO from an SBI Clerk


An SBI Clerk is eligible to get promoted to the post of SBI PO after a minimum period of 3 years. The candidates can seek promotion to the Officer Scale 1via any of the three promotional channels as mentioned in the space below:

Direct Recruitment


The first and the foremost process of being elected to the post of SBI PO is participating in the direct recruitment conducted by the bank annually. This almost appears to be simple but it is not owing to the tough competition as the exam is taken by at most 9 10 lakhs students every year. However, a lot of candidates already working as SBI Clerk have cleared the PO exam with flying colors.

Fast Track Internal Exams


The Fast Track Internal Exam is one of the most preferred promotional channels by the candidates working as SBI Clerk. These internal exams are conducted every two years and interested candidates can take up these exams. The candidates willing to opt for this have to complete their three years of service while working as a Junior Associate in the bank. Another thing that the candidate has to keep in mind is that he is also required to clear the JAIIB and CAIIB exams while working. These certification exams are conducted by IIBF and it not only helps in promotions but also provides an increment in the salary of the candidate. The candidates willing for promotions have to fulfill any of the three conditions mentioned below:

(i) 3 years of service, along with completion of the CAIIB (Certified Association of the Indian Institute of Bankers)

(ii) 4 years of service, along with completion of the JAIIB (Junior Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers)

(iii) The candidate should have completed a minimum of 6 years of service.

Promotion on the basis of Seniority Level


A lot of candidates often become comfortable with their clerical job owing to less work pressure and a handsome salary with a secured job. However, as per the rules of the bank, a candidate already working the bank as a Junior Associate for a minimum period of 6 years of service as a clerk under the fast track promotion channel
or having completed his 12 years of service under the normal promotion channel is required to get promoted to Officer Scale 1. However, the candidate will not be eligible to receive a salary similar to the Officer scale 1. Nevertheless, his powers and positions will be equivalent to a Probationary Officer.
